NetWitness provides the unique ability to provide one single platform with a unified view across all attack surfaces including Network, Logs/SIEM, Endpoint and IoT combined with our AI-based User and Entity Behavioral Analysis (UEBA) and Security, Orchestration, Automation & Response (SOAR) capabilities. 

As a Software Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for developing sophisticated systems and software basis the customer’s business goals, needs and general business environment creating software solutions.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Provide full design, planning, configuration, documentation, deployment and top-level support ownership of relevant technologies
  • Manage or utilize software that is built and implemented as a product, using best-in-class development process/lifecycle management (ex: Agile, Waterfall)
  • Identify design requirements and makes recommendations for capacity planning, performance optimization and future direction
  • Design solutions per business requirements
  • Research and compare software features and works with vendors on system sizing for specific applications
  • Troubleshoots software reliability and performance issues
  • Collaborate on and implements architecture recommendations to application integration, system administration, problem management, preventive maintenance, performance tuning and for 3rd party software
  • Identify and eliminates performance bottlenecks and makes performance-related recommendations (hardware, software, configuration)
  • Lead or participate in the software development lifecycle, which includes research, new development, modification, security, correction of errors, reuse, re-engineering and maintenance of software products
  • Gather business requirements and participates in product definition and feature prioritization, including customer usability studies
  • Perform competitive analysis for features at a product level scope
  • Lead the testing and fixing of new or enhanced products
  • Create technical documentation of software products/solutions
  • Assist with the development and review of end user and technical end user documentation
  • Drives idea generation for new software products or for the next version of an existing product
  • Protect Intellectual property by working appropriate legal elements (ex: procurement, patents, open source).
  • Responsible for the delivery of products within budget, schedule and quality guidelines
  • Work with the team to develop, maintain, and communicate current development schedules, timelines and development status
  • Make changes to software to correct errors in the original implementation and creates extensions to existing programs to add new features or performance improvements
  • Design and develop major functional or performance enhancements for existing products, or produces new software products or tools
  • Review requirements, specifications and designs to assure product quality; develop and implement plans and tests for product quality or performance assurance

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Architect and design new features
  • Create functional specifications by working with product management and engineering team members
  • Resolve customer facing technical escalations regarding the NetWitness product’s platform implementation
  • Serve as a mentor and challenge other engineers in the team

Skills:

  • Intermediate knowledge in networking concepts including an understanding with Layer 2 and Layer 3 concepts
  • Understanding of OS migration tasks (e.g. moving application stack from CentOS5 to CentOS 6)
  • Proficiency with software pipeline build & deployment tools (e.g., Jenkins, CI/CD pipelines)
  • Working knowledge of software configuration management/deployment tools (terraform, chef, ansible, puppet)
  • Working with message bus queues and message bus architecture (rabbitmq, amqp)
  • Proficiency with Linux/UNIX based operating system platforms
  • Experience with Python and Shell languages
  • Knowledge of basic storage concepts and how to manage them in an enterprise deployment
  • Experience with Agile development practices
  • Experience with being a software lead
  • Domain knowledge of information security industry (preferred)
  • Familiar with security fundamentals (e.g., authentication, cryptography) (preferred)
  • Familiarity with kickstart/boot image development for Linux based systems (preferred)

Education & Experience:

  • 8+ Years of experience as a software engineer with hands-on programming in object-oriented languages and constructs
  • B.S., M.S., PhD. in Computer Science or equivalent engineering discipline (preferred)
